Below I’ve posted a video of our church singing. It has to be said that its not the most tuneful of affairs… but these verses gave me hope that in the Bible singing and shouting were not as distant from each other as we might think…

You see words in the Bible express what’s in the heart, whether good or bad. Thus singing, shouting, declaring, talking are all closely tied, and sometimes overlap! It’s not about how beautiful the sound in itself but what it expresses of our hearts. We obviously try and ‘play skilfully’ but it may well be more like a ‘shout of joy’ rather than a song! (all from the same Psalm – 33:3).

Here’s some others…

Ps65:13 The meadows are covered with flocks
and the valleys are mantled with grain;
they shout for joy and sing.

Ps71:23 My lips will shout for joy
when I sing praise to you—
I, whom you have redeemed.

Ps81:1 Sing for joy to God our strength;
shout aloud to the God of Jacob!

Ps95:1 Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD;
let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.

Ps 98:4 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth,
burst into jubilant song with music
